Yukako Kawai (Japan) succeeded her sister on the Olympic throne in the 62kg category in women’s wrestling after defeating reigning world champion Aisuluu Tynybekova (Kyrgyzstan) by 4-3.
Yukako Kawai, who missed the last Olympics and her sister Risako Kawai became the champion in the category up to 63 kg, won the first part with 2-1 and added two more points in the second 4-1.
Aisuluu Tynybekova returned only two points to the end and so the representative of the hosts won their first gold in the wrestling tournament.
Risako Kawai is also in the tournament but fights in the lower category up to 57 kg. This became possible after the withdrawal of one of the most successful athletes of all time – Kaori Icho. She ended her career with four Olympic gold medals, 10 world titles, and five Asian titles.
