Two-time Olympic and ten-time world biathlon champion Tiril Eckhoff considers ending her competitive career after failing to regain full fitness after contracting the coronavirus almost a year ago.
Tiril Eckhoff said in an interview that she was “very uncertain” about returning to World Cup competition.
“I’m in the process of thinking because I’m struggling so much with my health. I’m still considering whether I can last another season or not”, said Tiril Eckhoff.
The 33-year-old Norwegian won the sprint and pursuit at the end of last season in Oslo, where she contracted the coronavirus at the end-of-campaign party. She said she has suffered from insomnia ever since and still needs medical attention.
Tiril Eckhoff added that she is healthy enough to compete, but not at the highest level. Therefore, for the first time in 11 years, she was not included in the composition for the World Championships, which began today in the German winter center Oberhof.
The Norwegian won medley relay gold at the Sochi 2014 and Beijing 2022 Olympics and has six more medals from the Winter Olympics. She also has 15 World Championship medals, 10 of which are gold. She also won the World Cup in 2021.
