Polish athlete Pia Skrzyszowska continues her excellent performance during the season. The European 100m hurdles champion from Munich 2022 won the 60m hurdles at the Orlen Cup in Lodz with a world best of 7.78 sec for the year.
Pia Skrzyszowska briefly thought she had bettered Zofia Bielczyk’s Polish record from 1980 of 7.77sec after the scoreboard initially read 7.76 sec. After the announcement of the official results, the achievement of the European champion was corrected to 7.78 sec.
Pia Skrzyszowska, 21, is among the favorites for the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul in March and targets Sweden’s athlete Susanna Kallur’s world record (7.68sec) from 2008.
“I left the block slowly. Another hundredth and it will be. The world record is only 10 hundredths away, I’m not saying anything”, said Pia Skrzyszowska after another strong result.
Pia Skrzyszowska is a Polish athlete specializing in sprint hurdles. She won in the 100m hurdles gold medals at the 2022 European Championships and 2021 European Under-23 Championships, as well as a silver at the 2019 European U20 Championships.
