Kenyan long-distance runner athlete Georgina Rono, who finished third in the 2012 Boston Marathon, has been banned for four years for missing a doping test.
Georgina Rono, who also has podiums at the Eindhoven and Frankfurt marathons, was banned until January 25, 2027. All her results since May 27 this year have been canceled by the Kenya Anti-Doping Agency.
Georgina Rono won the Hamburg Marathon in 2014. Her personal best is 2:21:39 hours in the marathon and 1:07:58 hours in the half-marathon.
Kenyan authorities are fighting against doping in recent years, and more than 50 athletes from the East African country are currently suspended from the professional sport. Those problems raised concerns of a serious punishment by the Kenya Athletics Federation late last year, but World Athletics dropped a sanction after the Kenyan government gave assurances to allocate more funds to anti-doping tests.
Kenya has won the second-most Olympic medals behind the United States since 2000 but has had serious problems policing its athletes.
