The former winner of the big crystal globe in the Biathlon World Cup, Tiril Eckhoff, will miss next month’s World Championship in Oberhof (Germany).
This season, the Norwegian has not yet started in the World Cup, because of the poor preparation she did in the summer and autumn. The reason for it was the severe coronavirus, which Tiril Eckhoff spent shortly after the end of the last season in the World Cup.
The news that she will miss the World Championships ensures that there will be new world champions in the 7.5km sprint and the 10km pursuit, as two years ago in Pokljuka (Slovenia) Tiril Eckhoff won the gold medals in both disciplines. In addition to the sprint and pursuit in Slovenia, she won two more gold medals, in the mixed 4×7.5 kilometer relay and the women’s 4×6 kilometer relay.
At the Beijing Olympics last year, Tiril Eckhoff took home two individual medals, silver in the 12.5km mass start and bronze in the pursuit. She also won gold with Norway’s medley relay.
Marte Olsbu Roiseland also had COVID-19 over the summer and missed the first three World Cup rounds this season. The reigning Grand Crystal Globe winner returned to competition earlier this year and will compete at the World Championships in Oberhof, which will take place between February 8 and 19.
