European 800m champion in Helsinki 2012 Lynsey Sharp is competing for the first time in more than three years. She returned to the track after injury and childbirth. The 32-year-old Briton’s last appearance was at the 2019 World Championships in Doha.
Lynsey Sharp, who also won silver in the 800m at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for her native Scotland, won the 600m in Glasgow on Friday.
“I was nervous, even during training here during the weeks I told myself it was the same. I think it’s the first time I’ve finished a race in Glasgow since the Commonwealth Games. It was really hard to come back because first there was COVID, then I gave birth”, commented Lynsey Sharp.
Lynsey Sharp and her life partner Andrew Butchart, an Olympic 5,000m finalist from Rio 2016, became parents to a boy named Max in 2021.
Lynsey Sharp is a Scottish track and field athlete who competes in the 800m. She is the 2012 European champion and represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. She won a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Her personal best is 1:57.69, the seventh fastest time over 800m by a British woman, set in the final of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
