Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won the 100m hurdles title at the Tokyo Olympic Athletics Tournament. The 24-year-old athlete, who was born and lives in the United States, triumphed convincingly in the final with 12.37 seconds and won the first gold in her career from a major race.
She justified her role as a favorite after setting a new Olympic record of 12.26 seconds in the semifinals yesterday and bringing her country’s first Olympic medal in athletics and second after tennis player Monica Puig’s gold in Rio 2016.
World record holder Kendra Harrison (USA) ended the race with the silver with 12.52 seconds. Kendra Harrison, 28, the 2018 Birmingham World Indoor Champion, made her Olympic debut.
Another Olympic debutant, Megan Tapper of Jamaica, finished third with 12.55 seconds and also had the biggest success of her career.
