The WADA referred to the sports arbitration court for the case of Kamila Valieva

Kamila Valieva WADA

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has referred to the sports arbitration court for the case of a figure skating competitor Kamila Valieva due to the lack of progress by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA).

“Despite the official warning to the RUSADA of timely permission of the situation with Kamila Valieva, there is still no progress. Therefore, I can confirm that we have officially taken the case directly to the sports arbitration court”, said the President of WADA, Witold Banka.

Last month, RUSADA announced that it would not publish the results of the investigation of the positive test of a 16-year-old Russian figure skater to “protect her interests”.

Kamila Valieva gave a positive doping sample during the National Championship of Russia in December 2021, but the result became public only on February 8 during the Beijing 2022 Olympics. The Russian, then 15-years-old, was allowed to the individual women’s competition and won fourth place, although she was identified as the main favorite.

A few days ago, Kamila Valieva won first place in the third tournament of the Grand Prix of Russia on figure skating in Kazan.
