The 2nd-seeded Czech tennis player Marie Bouzkova qualified for the second round of the WTA 125 Abierto Tampico in Mexico. She defeated Elina Avanesyan (Russia) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:3) after almost 2 hours of play.
The first set started without breaks. Marie Bouzkova first took a lead with a break in the 9th game but failed to defend it, and Elina Avanesyan returned the break to equalize to 5:5. The Russian player won her serving game and on the serve of Marie Bouzkova even had three break/set points. However the Czech player saved all of them and turned the set into a tiebreak, which she won undoubtedly either being from the 5th set point.
The second set started without breaks again. The 2nd-seeded Marie Bouzkova took a lead in the 6th game and this time confirmed her advantage. Thus, she won the set by 6:3 and qualified for the second round, where she will face Elisabetta Cocciaretto (Italy), who defeated Carol Zhao (Canada) by 2-0 (6:0, 6:3).
The 3rd-seeded Leylah Fernandez advanced to the second round of the WTA 125 Abierto Tampico after a win over Elizabeth Mandlik (USA) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:2). The Russian player Varvara Gracheva also overcame the first round of the tournament winning her match versus Laura Pigossi (Brazil) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:1).
The formed world’s No 5 Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard continue with her unsatisfactory performance and lost to Renata Zarazua (Mexico) by 1-2 (5:7, 6:1, 5:7).
The American player Ashlyn Krueger defeated Aldila Sutjiadi (Indonesia) by 2-0 (6:2, 7:5).
