The match started perfectly for Danielle Collins, who won the first five games and took a lead of 5:0 with two breaks ahead. This was quite enough for her to close the set by 6:2, despite that Martina Trevisan returned one of the breaks.

In the quarter-finals, Danielle Collins will face the winner between the 2nd-seeded Paula Badosa and Louisa Chirico.
The 4th-seeded Jessica Pegula also qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 San Diego Open after defeating Coco Vandeweghe by 2-0 (6:3, 6:1).
