Turkey’s women volleyball team recorded their second victory at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic tournament and took an important step towards qualifying for the quarterfinals. Giovanni Guidetti’s girls beat Argentina 3-0 (25:23, 25:20, 25:17) in their 4th Group B match of the Olympics, played this morning at the Ariake Arena.
Thus, the Turkish team are in 4th place in the standings with 2 wins, 2 losses and 7 points, and are very close to moving forward to the elimination phase. Argentina is in the last 6th place without a victory and a point won so far. In their last group matches, Turkey will play with the team of the Russian Olympic Committee, and the Argentines with the current Olympic champions from China. The matches are on Monday (August 2).
The most valuable for Turkey was Hande Baladin with 14 points (2 blocks, 50% efficiency in attack and 67% positive reception), and captain Eda Erdem Dundar added another 13 points (4 blocks and 50% efficiency in attack) for the victory. Zehra Gunes (7 blocks and 55% efficiency in attack) and Ebrar Karakurt (1 ace and 32% efficiency in attack) scored 12 points each.
For the team of Argentina, Erika Mercado was the most productive with 12 points (1 block and 39% efficiency in attack).
