Barbora Krejcikova WTA 500 Ostrava Open

The Czech tennis player Barbora Krejcikova won WTA 500 Ostrava Open with a prize fund of 757,900 USD.

In the final, The Czech player prevailed over the world’s number one Iga Swiatek (Poland) by 2-1 (5:7, 7:6, 6:3) after 3 hours and 17 minutes of play. The match was one of the longest-ever in women’s tennis this season and can definitely be characterized as the highest-quality final of the year.

For Barbora Krejcikova, this is the second title in a row after the WTA 250 Tallinn Open last week, and from tomorrow the former Roland Garros champion will once again be the top tennis player of Czech Republic. Barbora Krejcikova also ended Iga Swiatek‘s streak of ten consecutive finals wins, a streak she started in 2020.

The beginning of the first set did not suggest such a dramatic development of the match at all, because Iga Swiatek led with a 5:1 game. However, Barbora Krejcikova equalized at 5:5 by saving a set point on her serve in the eighth game, and in the 11th game she had three break points to take a 6:5 lead. However, this did not happen and in the next game Iga Swiatek broke through again to take the first set.

However, the second started with a break for Barbora Krejcikova, who looked very solid in those minutes on the court. The Czech was leading the game, but allowed Iga Swiatek to equalize for 4:4. The second set went into a tiebreak, in which Barbora Krejcikova led 4-0 and 6-1 points before winning it 7-4.

In the decisive third set, both tennis players won their serves in the first seven games. In the eighth game, Barbora Krejcikova made a break to zero, but that was far from the end of the match. In his final game, Barbora Krejcikova dropped three match points before Iga Swiatek reached a break point. However, the Polish woman failed to realize it, and although her opponent missed two more match points, in the sixth match point, Barbora Krejcikova managed to close the match and win her fifth singles title in her career.

Barbora Krejcikova has 5 singles WTA titles including the French Open / Roland-Garros title and nine major doubles titles, including the career Super Slam in doubles.
