Belgian tennis player Elise Mertens overcame the resistance of Moyuka Uchijima (Japan) and qualified for the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Jasmin Open Monastir. Elise Mertens won the two-hour battle against the Japanese qualified by 2-1 (6:0, 3:6, 6:4).
The first set was under the total dominance of the Belgian tennis player, who made three breaks and won it on zero.
However, Moyuka Uchijima woke up in the second set and found the right way to resist her opponent. The set was running equal in the beginning but at the end with two breaks, the Japanese qualifier won it.
The third set started with the exchange of breaks for both players. However, after that Elise Mertens won three consecutive games and took a serious lead. This was quite enough for her to close the set by 6;4 and qualify for the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, Elise Mertens will face the American Claire Liu who made a surprise to defeat the top-seeded Ons Jabeur.
