Qualifier Alycia Parks eliminated the 4th-seeded Maria Sakkari from the WTA 500 Ostrava Open

Qualifier Alycia Parks (USA) defeated the 4th-seeded Maria Sakkari by 2-1 (5:7, 7:5, 7:5) and advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Ostrava Open in the Czech Republic.

The 21-year-old Alycia Parks notched her first win over a Top-10 player. The American, who is currently the world’s No 144, recorded 15 aces and a total of 59 winners, 50 more than her rival Maria Sakkari. She did not receive a break in the second and third sets, which she won with late breaks to reach her first WTA Tour quarter-final.

Alycia Parks’ next opponent will be 2021 Roland Garros winner Barbora Krejcikova, who qualified for the quarter-finals after withdrawal of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics champion Belinda Bencic due to a left leg injury.

Another American tennis player, Caty McNally, also qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Ostrava Open after defeating Karolina Muchova by 2-1 (6:1, 3:6, 6:1).
