The former world number one Naomi Osaka has advanced to the second round of the WTA 500 Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo after playing just two games.

The Japanese won her first serve, and in the second game, her opponent Daria Saville of Australia suffered a left knee injury. The Australian tennis player, who has a history of cruciate ligament injuries, is likely to have re-injured them after having to leave the court in a wheelchair.

In the second round, Naomi Osaka, who won the title in the last edition of the tournament in 2019, will play with the 5th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil). In her debut in the competition, Beatriz Haddad Maia overcame Yuki Naito by 2-0 (6:4, 6:2), participating with the “wild card”. The match lasted an hour and 45 minutes, and Beatriz Haddad Maia did not allow a single break.

The 8th-seeded Elena Rybakina, who is the Wimbledon 2022 champion, was defeated in the first round by the Russian tennis player Liudmila Samsonova by 0-2 (6:2, 6:4). In the second round, the Russian player will face Xinyu Wang (China), who defeated the Australian Ellen Perez by 2-1 (7:5, 1:6, 6:4).
