The volleyball players of the Russian Olympic Committee recorded a second victory and at the same time inflicted the third consecutive loss of the champion of Rio 2016, China, in the women’s tournament of the Tokyo 2020 Games. Russian won by 3-2 (25:17, 23:25, 20:25, 27:25, 15:12) in the third match of Group B of the volleyball tournament in Tokyo Olympics, played today in Ariake Arena.

Thus, the Russians are third in the standings in the group with 2 wins, 1 loss, and 5 points, and will almost certainly qualify for the quarterfinals of the tournament. On the other hand, China is in the penultimate 5th place without a win so far and a single point won, as there is a real danger of not moving forward and dropping out in the group stage. In their last matches, the Russian team will play with the USA, while the Chinese will face Italy. The matches are on Saturday (July 31).

China led 2-1 and 20:17 in the fourth half and had two match points, but the Russians won the game with 27:25. After that, the Russian volleyball players managed to win the tiebreak with 15:12 and the match with 3-2.

A great match for the Russians was played by the rising young star Arina Fedorovtseva, who scored 28 points (3 blocks, 2 aces) for the victory. Nataliya Goncharova (1 block) and Irina Voronkova (3 blocks, 1 ace) added another 27 and 26 points for the success.

For China, Li Yingying scored 27 points (4 aces) and star Zhu Ting finished 17 points (1 block, 1 ace), but that was not enough to win.
