Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard, playing with a wild card, qualified for the second round of the WTA 250 Chennai Open. She defeated the Swiss player Joanne Zuger by 2-0 (7:6, 6:2) in a match that last 105 minutes.
Eugenie Bouchard had problems only in the first set, which she won by tiebreak, but in the second took a break in the fifth game and then another one in the seventh game to win the match. This is only the second tournament for the Canadian tennis player this season.
In the next round, Eugenie Bouchard will face the winner between the 8th-seeded Chloe Paquet and another wild card player Karman Kaur Thandi.
In other matches of the first round of the WTA 250 Chennai Open, the 3rd-seeded Canadian Rebecca Marino defeated Anna Blinkova by 2-0 (7:5, 6:2). In the next round, she will face the Polish player Katarzyna Kawa, who eliminated the Astra Sharma (Australia).
Nao Hibino (Japan) also advanced to the second round after winning her match versus Jana Fett (Croatia) by 2-0 (6:0, 6:4).
The Czech talent Linda Fruhvirtova defeated En Shuo Liang (Taiwan) by 2-1 (4:6, 6:1, 6:3) to go to the second round as well.
