Poish tennis player Iga Swiatek won her second Grand Slam title of the year after triumphing at the US Open 2022.
The 21-year-old Iga Swiatek won the final match versus Ons Jabeur by 2-0 (6:2, 7:6) in the final, which lasted an hour and 50 minutes.
It was the Polish player’s first US Open trophy and third Grand Slam singles title, while Ons Jabeur played in her second straight final at the same level after losing to Elena Rybakina in the Wimbledon title fight. The Tunisian came close to reaching the third set, but Iga Swiatek held on to win in two sets.
Iga Swiatek’s second Roland Garros title was part of her 37-match winning streak, and now, at the tournament where Serena Williams ended her career, the Pole became the first tennis player since the American in 2014 to win 7 trophies in one season and the first since 2016 to take two Slam titles in a single season. In her last 10 finals, she reached success without losing a set and cemented her first position in the world ranking.
Iga Swiatek’s win over Ons Jabeur extended her record on the year to 55 wins and just 7 losses.
“I just didn’t expect much before this tournament. There were many challenges – this is New York. I’m very proud of how I managed mentally”, commented Iga Swiatek after the final.
