Irene Aldana scored a pretty interesting knockout at the UFC 279 in Las Vegas last night.
The UFC bantamweight took on Macy Chiasson in a fight on the main card of UFC 279. Their fight was in the 63.5-pound division. The two exchanged 1 dominant round each. In the first round, Irene Aldana dominated and landed a heavy ground and pound on her opponent.
Irene Aldana came close to winning by submission, but Macy Chiasson survived. In the second round, things changed. Macy Chiasson took Irene Aldana to the ground and returned the heavy ground and pound. Irene Aldana tried to choke her opponent, who survived, and so their fight went to the 3rd round, which would be decisive.
There wasn’t as much action in the third round. Irene Aldana pressed, and in the middle of the round Macy Chiasson took her to the ground. She gets to her feet, then Irene Aldana lands a heel kick to her liver. Macy Chiasson fell to the ground and began writhing, forcing the referee to stop the match.
At first it was not clear what caused the stoppage, but it was later revealed that Irene Aldana was able to knock out her opponent with this kick from a prone position. Thus, Irene Aldana recorded the victory by knockout in the middle of the 3rd round.
With this victory, Irene Aldana entered a series of 2 consecutive victories. Macy Chiasson’s, for its part, returns to losses.
