A few days after Stefka Kostadinova marked 35 years since her world record in the high jump of 2.09m, this winter’s indoor world champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh dared to attack that achievement.
The 20-year-old Ukrainian secured first place at the Diamond League in Brussels with a personal best of 2.05m – equaling the record of the tournament and Ukraine and the best result in the world for the season. Yaroslava Mahuchikh then took the bar directly to 2.10m and made three decent attempts, but failed, which kept the Stefka Kostadinova’s achievement at the top again.
Eugene 2022 world champion Eleanor Patterson (Australia) was second with 1.94m, while her compatriot Nicola Olyslagers, an Olympic medalist from Tokyo, came third with 1.91m.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh is a Ukrainian high jumper. She was the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics gold medalist, 2019 and 2022 World Championships silver medalist, 2020 Summer Olympics bronze medalist, and 2022 World Indoor Championships gold medalist. At the 2019 World Championships, Mahuchikh jumped 2.04m, which was her outdoor personal best since today. Her indoor personal best is 2.06m, which she achieved in 2021.
