Four-time Olympic champion in gymnastics Simone Biles (USA) withdrew from the women’s team final at the Tokyo 2020 Games. The American only took part in the jump, after which she gave up due to a “medical problem”.
The 24-year-old American retired after recording 13.766 pts in the first rotation. This is her lowest rating on this device at the Olympics. All her teammates and all the Russians who performed scored higher.
Simone Biles left the room, then returned with a severely bandaged right ankle. According to local media, however, she did not retire because of injury, but because of psychological problems.
It is not yet clear whether she will be able to participate in the finals of the all-around and the individual devices.
However, if the United States takes a medal in the team competition, Simone Biles will also receive an award, as she is part of the team.
The competition continues at the moment.
We remind you that at the Olympic Games in Rio she won four gold and bronze medals. She is also the holder of 19 world titles.
