Iga Swiatek is a Polish professional tennis player, who is currently ranked world No 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). Iga Swiatek was the champion at the French Open in 2020 and 2022.

Iga Swiatek was born on May 31, 2001, in Warsaw, Poland. She started playing tennis at an early age and reached a career-high ranking of No 5 as a junior. In her junior career, she won J4 Riga \ Riga Open, Airok Viljandi Open, and Passagespoirs in 2013, as well as InTime Tennis Direct Junior Open, Zabrze Cup, and Opalenica Cup in 2014, and Nottingham Junior International in 2015. She won also the European Junior Championships in 2015, Canadian Open Junior Championships in 2016. However, her biggest achievement was winning the Junior Wimbledon in 2018.

Iga Swiatek made her professional debut in 2016 at the $10,000 W15 Stockholm (Sweden) and won the tournament. By the end of the season, the young Polish tennis player took part also at the $25,000 Zawada (Near Opole), but lost in the first round.

In 2017, Iga Swiatek won another two ITF titles at the $15,000 Bergamo (Italy) and $15,000 Gyor (Hungary).

In 2018, she continue winning trophies at the ITF tour and captured four more tournaments – $15,000 W15 Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt), $25,000 W25 Pelham, AL (USA), $60,000 Budapest (Hungary), and $60,000 W60 Montreux (Switzerland).

Iga Swiatek debuted on the WTA tour in 2019, qualifying for her first WTA main draw at the Australian Open. After a fantastic play, she reached the second round and lost to Italian Camila Giorgi. However, in April of the same year, she reached her first WTA final at the WTA 250 Lugano Open, losing the title to Polona Hercog. Later during the season, she made a great breakthrough, reaching the fourth round of the French Open / Roland Garros, and the third round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open. During the season she first time entered the WTA Top 100 the season at No 60.

Iga Swiatek continue playing fantastic in 2020 and despite the coronavirus pandemic and the short season, she won her first Grand Slam title at the French Open / Roland Garros. Earlier during the season, she reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and the third round of the US Open. And she is still 19 years old. She finished the season at the world’s No 17.

In 2021, Iga Swiatek won the titles at the WTA 500 Adelaide International, WTA 1000 Rome Open, but also reached the finals at the French Open / Roland Garros, the fourth round of the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. she entered into the Top 10 and finished the season at No 9.

Iga Swiatek had her best season in 2022. She climbed to the world’s No 1 after the resignation of Ashleigh Barty but really was a matter of time to overtake the Australian player. Iga Swiatek won the titles at the French Open / Roland Garros, WTA 1000 Qatar Total Open, WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open, WTA 1000 Miami Open, WTA 1000 Rome Open, and WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. She won six tournaments in a row and make a winning streak of 35 wins. She also reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open. She climbed to the top of the WTA ranking and definitely the most successful tennis player during the season.

In 2023, Iga Swiatek proved to be world’s number one. She celebrated one year on the top of the WTA ranking in April. During the season, she won the titles at the WTA 500 Qatar TotalEnergies Open and WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. Also was the runner-up at the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and WTA 1000 Madrid Open, and also reached the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open and the fourth round of the Australian Open. During the Summer, she reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Rome Open before winning the French Open / Roland Garros. She continue by reaching the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Bad Homburg Open presented by Engel & Volkers and the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon and won the title at the BNP Paribas Poland Open. Iga Swiatek dropped out in the fourth round of the US Open and reached the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open (Rogers Cup) and WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open, losing her top position to Aryna Sabalenka. However, she made a great final run of the season, winning the WTA 1000 China Open and triumphing with the title at the WTA Finals in Cancun, regaining her world’s number one position to finish the season in the top of the WTA ranking.
