American tennis star Serena Williams, who recently announced that she will soon end her illustrious tennis career, will begin her final appearance at the US Open with a match against Montenegro’s Danka Kovinic.
If she wins, Williams, 40, could play versus the second-seeded Anett Kontaveit of Estonia in the second round.
Serena’s older sister Venus Williams, who is also likely to play in New York for the last time, starts the tournament with a match against Belgium’s Alison Van Uytvanck, and in the second round, she may face the Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina.
World number one and top-seeded Iga Swiatek will face Jasmine Paolini of Italy in the first round. In the second round, her potential opponent will be Sloane Stephens.
