Lina Nielsen competed with numbness leading leg at the World Athletics Championships

Great Britain’s 400m hurdler Lina Nielsen admits she could not feel her lead leg while competing at the World Athletics Championships this summer after experiencing a relapse of multiple sclerosis symptoms at the Oregon heats.

Lina Nielsen revealed earlier this month that she was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis just before her 18th birthday.

“It’s been such a busy summer and I didn’t expect it to happen right before my first championship of the summer, such bad weather”, said Lina Nielsen about her numbness in his leg. “I suffered from some numbness on the left side, as well as weakness on the right side, which tended to settle down fairly quickly, but it affected training for these races. So I didn’t do quite as well as I wanted to at this championship, but I still went out and had fun. I managed to stay healthy for five years without flare-ups or relapses, so for it to happen the day before the World Cup was really unexpected. I just coped, I reduced the intensity of the training, I just adapt. I don’t want to stop with the sport, I just make sure I listen to the body and really respect it”, added the 26-year-old Briton.

Lina Nielsen is a British sprinter. She won the 400 m hurdles at the 2021 European Athletics Team Championships with 55.59. Nielsen has a twin sister, Laviai Nielsen, who is also an international athlete over 400m.
