The favorite for the long jump title, German athlete Malaika Mihambo, is racing against time to compete at the European Athletics Championships in Munich, German, which will be held from August 15 to 21. The reason is a positive test for coronavirus, which the athlete recently gave.
The 28-year-old Malaika Mihambo is an Olympic and two-time world champion in the discipline. According to her agents, she has mild symptoms but has been feeling tired and hasn’t worked out for ten days.
“The quarantine and the symptoms, unfortunately, made it impossible for me to do an ideal preparation for the European Athletics Championships”, said Malaika Mihambo.
The athlete will decide on her participation in the European Athletics Championships in the coming days. The women’s long jump qualifiers will be held on August 16, with the final two days later.
Malaika Mihambo is a German athlete and the current Olympic, world, and European champion in the long jump. Recently she won the gold at the 2022 Eugene World Athletics Championships.
