Ivet Lalova-Collio: I enter the commission with a huge ambition to do something good

Ivet Lalova

Ivet Lalova-Collio entered the World Athletics Commission with a record vote. The Bulgarian sprinter received the votes of 615 of her colleagues in Eugene, USA, and in her first interview after the great news, she wanted to thank everyone who voted for her.

“My first words, of course, must be of gratitude to the athletes who had five days from the first day of the World Cup to vote for this commission. This is not an easy task, because we must not forget that all those who managed to reach the world championships, come here with one single goal – to think about their starts, about their performance. A huge thank you to all these athletes who supported me”, said Ivet Lalova-Collio. “I enter this commission with a huge ambition to do something good. My goal is to help make things happen”, added she.

Ivet Lalova-Collio became one of six newcomers to the 12-member body, receiving the most votes (615) in the Eugene (USA) vote.

“Athletes face many challenges. In recent years, we live, train, and compete in different conditions. In addition, athletes today are under enormous pressure from TV broadcasters. This is why the foul start was abolished, for example”, added also Ivet Lalova-Collio. “For me as a professional athlete, it’s very important that the athletes feel good when they go to a big competition. It will be a great honor for me, I have a huge ambition and motivation to help and contribute to this commission”, added the Bulgarian sprinter.

Ivet Lalova-Collio is a Bulgarian athlete who specialises in 100m and 200m sprint events. She is the 13th-fastest woman in the history of the 100m. She finished fourth in the 100m and fifth in the 200m at the Athens 2004 Olympics. She has a gold demal from the 2005 European Indoor Championships in Madrid and the European Championships in Helsinki. She has also silver medals from the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam.
