Germany defeated Austria and qualified for the quarter-finals of the Women’s Euro 2022. The German team won the match with 2-0 and stopped the impetus of the Austrian ladies.
Lina Magull opened the score in the 25th minute after a pass from Klara Buhl. The first half ended with a comfortable win for eh german ladies. However, in the second half they were in the position to defend the result and play mostly on counterattacks. The defense of the German team was good enough and succeeded to save the result and in the 90th minute, Alexandra Popp formed the final score of 2-0.
Austria had won nine of their previous 11 internationals, but their impetus was stopped by the well-organized and very powerful team of Germany.
Germany’s hopes of winning a record-extending ninth European title are very much alive. In the semi-final, they will face the winner between France and the Netherlands.
