Venus Williams will play in the Toronto tennis tournament starting on August 6. The 42-year-old American received a “wild card” for her first appearance in the Canadian city since 2019, the organizers announced.
Earlier in July, Venus Williams partnered Britain’s Jamie Murray in the mixed doubles at the Wimbledon, where reached the Round of 16 and were defeated by Alicia Barnett and Jonny O’Mara.
The Olympic champion Venus Williams is a former world No. 1 in both singles and doubles, who has won seven Grand Slam singles titles, five at Wimbledon and two at the US Open. Williams’ younger sister, Serena, has also confirmed her participation in Toronto, where she won three championships.
