Nafi Thiam reclaimed the world heptathlon title

Nafi Thiam

The two-time Olympic heptathlon champion Nafissatou Thiam also reclaimed the world title after winning the silver in Doha in 2019. However, the Belgian grabbed the gold in Eugene, Oregon in a highly dramatic race – in the latter event.

Nafi Thiam, who was also the world champion in London in 2017, collected a total of 6,947 points for the gold. This is also the best result in the world for the season. After the sixth discipline, the Belgian was on the second position behind the Dutchwoman Anouk Vetter, but with her achievement of 2:13.00 minutes in the 800 meters, she managed to regain the first place at the most important moment.

Here are all of Thiam’s results in the events: 13.21s in 100m hurles, 1.95m in the high jump, 15.03m in the shot put, 24.39s in 200m, 6.59m in long jump, 53.01m in javelin and 2:13.00 min at 800 m.

The Amsterdam 2016 European champion Anouk Vetter won the silver medal with a new Dutch national record of 6,867 points. Her results were: 13.30s in 100m hurdles, 1.80m in high jump, 16.25m in shot put, 23.73s in 200m, 6.52m in the long jump, 58.29m in the javelin and 2:20.09 in the 800m. This is Anouk Vetter’s second world championship honor after bronze in 2017. She was also a silver medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The hosts also had serious reasons to be happy, after the American Anna Hall fought for the bronze distinction with 6,755 points. She achieved the following results: 13.20s in the 100m hurdles, 1.86m in the high jump, 13.67m in the shot put, 23.08s in the 200m, 6.39m in the long jump, 45.75m in the javelin and 2:06.67 min at 800 m.

The 2019 Doha champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who has battled injuries for the past year, finished eighth with 6,222 points.
