Current diamond trophy winners Elaine Thompson-Herah and Francine Niyonsaba will continue to defend their titles at the fourth Diamond League tournament for 2022 in Rabat on Sunday.
Francine Niyonsaba became the first Burundian athlete to win the diamond trophy in the 5,000 meters last season, twice breaking her country’s national record on the way to the award. She was the 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist in the women’s 800 meters. Her silver medal was the first Olympic medal for Burundi since 1996
Jamaica triple jumper Shanieka Ricketts and the Ukrainian Indoor world champion in the high jump in the Yaroslava Mahuchikh will also take part in the Diamond League tournament in Rabat.
Earlier this week, the Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah won the 100m at the Pre Classic. She is one of the greatest sprinters of all time, she is a five-time Olympic champion, the fastest woman alive, and the second-fastest in history over both the 100 m and 200 m.
