Former world number one Victoria Azarenka announced that due to personal problems and mental stress she did not finish her match against Linda Fruhvirtova (Czech Republic) in the third round of the strong tennis tournament WTA 1000 Miami Open.
“I shouldn’t have been on the court today. The last few weeks have been extremely stressful in my personal life. The last game took a lot of energy, but I wanted to play in front of a great audience because they helped me survive the first game. I wanted to go out and I tried, but it was a mistake”, said Victoria Azarenka. “I hope to take a break and be able to come back. I apologize to the fans for what happened because you supported me so well. That was the only reason I decided to go to court. I always look forward to the challenges and tensions of the race. But today was too much. I have to learn from this lesson. I would like to congratulate my opponent and wish her good luck in this tournament and for the beginning of her professional career”, added she.
The Belarusian did not finish her match at the WTA 1000 Miami Open with 16-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova. The first set ended with a score of 6:2 in favor of the Czech tennis talent, and in the second with 0:3 Azarenka left the court.
A few days ago, during the second set of the match in Indian Wells that saw her against Elena Rybakina, Victoria Azarenka suddenly burst into tears. After losing the first set at 6:3, the Belarusian tennis player froze while she was serving at 2:2 in the second set. After a few minutes of pause, Azarenka resumed playing but inevitably lost the match.
Victoria Azarenka is a Belarusian professional tennis player. She is a former world No 1 in singles, having claimed the top ranking for the first time on January 30, 2012. She was the year-end No 1 in 2012 and has held the top ranking for a combined total of 51 weeks.
