American middle-distance runner Ajee Wilson is the new indoor world champion in the 800m, winning the title at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
She won the race with a mind-boggling last lap to record 1:59.09 min – a personal record for the season. She was a second and a half ahead of the second – the Ethiopian Freweyni Hailu, who finished in 2:00.54 min.
The bronze went to the world champion from Doha 2019 – Halimah Nakaayi from Uganda with 2:00.66 min.
The 27-year-old Ajee Wilson has won several medals at outdoor and indoor world championships but had no gold in her collection. Finally, it happened. The American is a two-time silver medalist in the indoor discipline from Birmingham 2018 and Portland 2016, as well as a two-time bronze medalist from the World Outdoor Championships in Doha 2019 and London 2017.
