Cyrena Samba-Mayela won the 60m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade. The 20-year-old French athlete set a new national record for her country, winning by 7.78 sec.
The second place was taken by the representative of the Bahamas Devynne Charlton with 7.81 sec – equalizing her own national record.
American Gabriele “Gabbi” Cunningham defended the prestige of the Americans in hurdles with 7.87 sec.
So far, the young French Cyrena Samba-Mayela has only been successful as a teenager. She was part of the mixed relay, which won gold medals at the European Junior and Girls’ Championships in Tbilisi in 2016. In 2017, at the World Championships for boys and girls under 18 in Nairobi, she earned the silver medal in the 100 meters, and now she has won her first women’s title.
