The boxing world champion Claressa Shields is convinced of her successful MMA debut. She was one of the most successful female boxers but also wants to become an MMA champion.
“I want to become a boxing world champ and simultaneously a mixed martial arts world champ”, said Claressa Shields in an interview.
On June 10, Claressa Shields will make her mixed martial arts debut with the Professional Fighters’ League (PFL) in Atlantic City. She will face the formed Bellator fighter Brittney Elkin (3-6-0).
Despite her successful boxing career, Claressa Shields has a little experience in MMA. She said that she had practiced a little karate at a younger age, but last months started training in the world-renowned Jackson Wink gym in New Mexico, under the watchful eye of MMA star Holly Holm.
Claressa Shields is a double Olympic gold medallist. She has held multiple world championships in three weight classes, including the undisputed female light middleweight title since March 2021, the undisputed female middleweight title from 2019 to 2020, and the unified WBC and IBF female super middleweight titles from 2017 to 2018.
Claressa Shields currently holds the record for becoming a two and three-weight world champion in the fewest professional fights.
