Iga Swiatek qualified for the third round of the WTA 1000 Qatar Open. The Polish player, who is 7th-seeded, had a hard win by 2-1 (6:2, 3:6, 6:2) against Viktorija Golubic for more than two hours.
The 2020 Roland Garros champion made two breaks against the Swiss in the third set and ended the match from her first matchball. In the round of 16, Iga Swiatek will face Daria Kasatkina of Russia.
Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann defeated Alison Van Uytvanck by 2-0 (7:6, 7:5) and will face Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated Alize Cornet (France) with 2-0 (6:2, 6:2).
The sixth-seeded WTA 1000 Qatar Open Maria Sakkari won by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) against the American Ann Li. The Greek triumphed after 76 minutes on the court and a total of five breaks in the second set of the match.
