The US Open 2021 tennis champion Emma Raducanu withdrew in the third set due to an injury in a match from the first round of the tennis tournament in Guadalajara (Mexico) with a prize fund of 239,477 USD.
The top-seeded Emma Raducanu lost by 7:5, 6:7 (4), 3:4 to Australia’s Daria Saville, or Daria Gavrilova, when she decided to end his match due to left thigh pain after 3:36 hours of play in the longest match of the WTA season so far. The 27-year-old Daria Saville, who reached 20th place in the world rankings in 2017, is currently trying to return to the elite after Achilles tendon surgery last season.
The Australian, who is currently 610th in the world, recorded her first victory in the main draw of the Tour of the Australian Open in 2021.
Raducanu made a turn over after 1:3 in the first set, and in the second she wasted a 3:0 lead, serving at 5:3 for the match, but suffered a break. In the tiebreak, Daria Saville made a series of four consecutive points to equalize the score.
The Briton took a 2:0 lead in the decisive third set, while her opponent struggled with muscle cramps. A new turnaround followed and 3:2 for Daria Saville when Emma Raducanu requested a medical timeout, in which the upper part of her left leg was seriously bandaged. She returned to the court but apparently had problems moving and after two more games, she gave up at 3:4 and broke passive.
In the second round Daria Saville will meet the qualifier Caroline Dolehide (USA).
