Paula Badosa qualified for the third round of the WTA 1000 Qatar Open after an easy victory versus Denmark’s teenager Clara Tauson with 2-0 (6:1, 6:2) for a little more than an hour. The third-seeded Spanish player scored 9 aces and won 88% of the 1st Serve Points.

The match started with a total dominance for Paula Badosa, who won her first serve game on 15 and then broke the service of Denmark’s young talent. The same happened in the next two games and thus, the Spanish player had a lead of 5:0. In the sixth game, Clara Tauson again started very bad at her serve and gave two set points to her opponent. However, Paula Badosa lost both of them and even another one, to give the game to Denmark’s teenager. But the set was closed immediately after that at Paula Badosa’s serve with 6:1.

The second set started more equal and both players won their serving games at the beginning. The result went 2:2 when the hegemony of the Spaniard started. She took the next 4 games and closed the set with 6:2 and the match with 2-0, without giving any chance to her opponent.

In the next round, Paula Badosa will face the winner between Caroline Garcia and Cori “CoCo” Gauff.

In another early match today, the Czech player Petra Kvitova retired midway through the second set versus Elise Mertens. The result was 1-0 (7:5) for the Belgian player, but in the second set, Petra Kvitova was leading with 1:2. In the next round, Elise Mertens will face the fourth-seeded Anett Kontaveit.
