World and Olympic high jump champion Mariya Lasitskene will return to the city where she won her second world indoor title. The Russian will take part in the “Gold Label” World Athletics Tournament in Birmingham on February 19.
Mariya Lasitskene, 29, has dominated the high jump sector in recent years and remained undefeated in the 2021 winter season. Last year, she also won her first Olympic title in Tokyo.
“I have two big titles to defend in 2022. This competition is great preparation for the first championship – the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade. I won the world indoor title in 2018 and the noise that the audience made was amazing. I have competed in silence in many tournaments over the last two years and I look forward to returning to a full hall in Birmingham”, said the three-time world outdoor champion, who has a personal best of 2.06m in the outdoor and 2.05m in the indoor.
Mariya Lasitskene is a Russian athlete who specializes in the high jump. She is the 2020 Olympic champion and three-time world champion. With her victory in Tokyo, she became the fourth female high jumper in history to win gold at both the Olympic Games and the World Championships.
