Olympic slalom champion at the Beijing 2022 Olympics Petra Vlhova said it was difficult for her to stay calm after the first рун of today’s race, in which she gave 8тх time and was 0.72 сец slower than the first – Lena Duerr (Germany).
“Honestly, it was really hard for me to stay focused. But I got a lot of strength from the team. They trusted me, trusted me, and kept telling me to stay strong and enjoy skiing’, said the 26-year-old Petra Vlhova. “I did my best and finally became an Olympic champion”, added she.
She hurried to hug her teammates and coach Mauro Pini after the race. It was Pini who was the tracer of the second run, in which Petra Vlhovawas the fastest to win the gold.
“Petra left her heart on the track. That’s what I asked her to do. She had nothing to lose after the first round. She had to be brave”, said the Slovak national coach. “I told her I wanted to see someone with a big heart on this track and she did. It’s amazing”, added Mauro Pini.
With a magical second descent, Petra Vlhova erased her delay of 0.72 sec after the first run, the Slovak grabbed the gold medal in the women’s slalom at the Beijing 2022 Olympics. She climbed from 8th to first place in the final, and only 0.08 sec behind her was the world champion from Cortina d’Ampezzo 2021 Katharina Liensberger.
