Women’s alpine skiing star Mikaela Shiffrin made her second consecutive failure at the Beijing 2022 Olympics after failing to finish in the first run of the women’s slalom.
As in the giant slalom on Monday, the American made a mistake in the first gates and left the battle for the medals. After dropping out, she stayed on the track for a long time before going down to the final zone. There, she told reporters that she had had worse days in her career.
“I feel more or less. I was better, but I was worse. I just wanted to stop for a moment and try to figure out exactly what I was up to. Not on this turn, but in general during the day, weeks and year. I really thought I would be very good today, but the opposite happened”, said Mikaela Shiffrin.
Her participation in the Olympics in China continues in two days when the super-giant slalom will take place, in which she will fight for a medal again, but there are fewer chances for one, compared to the technical disciplines in which she dropped out.
Mikaela Shiffrin is an American two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and World Cup alpine skier. She is a three-time Overall World Cup champion, a four-time world champion in slalom, and a six-time winner of the World Cup discipline title in that event. She is the youngest slalom champion in Olympic alpine skiing history, at 18 years and 345 days.
