The Italian team completed its hegemony in the curling tournament for mixed teams at the Beijing 2022 Olympics, after beating Norway 8:5 in the final. The title marks the first medal for Italy in the Olympic curling tournaments ever.
For the team of Italy this is the 11th consecutive victory, after winning all nine matches in the preliminary phase, the semifinals, and today the final match. In the preliminary group, the Italians won against this opponent with 11:8.
The third place is for the team of Sweden, which earlier today surprisingly defeated Great Britain with 9:3.
Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner were literally flawless, and Amos Mosaner shocked everyone with a 90% success rate in the final. Their victory is really sensational, especially since the match did not go in the best way for them.
The start of the match was favorable for the Norwegians, who immediately scored two points in the first end and took the lead with 0:2. However, the reaction of the Italian was rapid: an excellent second end returned the situation to a total draw and it happened thanks to several sensational blows by Stefania Constantini. In the third end, the “blues” scored a point, but the real difference came in the fourth end – the last before the break, with three red stones to the center and a lead of 6:2.
Then the Norwegians Magnus Nedregotten and Kristin Skaslien tried to react, but made too many mistakes. However, they managed to shorten the lead to 5:7 and things looked like a mix between psychodrama and very high adrenaline before the last stones. However, Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner remained stable and with the last incredible performance, they formed the final 8:5.
