Ukrainian biathlete Valentyna Semerenko has ended her participation at the Beijing 2022 Olympics due to health problems and is returning to her homeland. This was announced by the President of the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine Vladimir Brinzak.
On Monday, Valentyna Semerenko failed to finish the 15km individual race. The winner was the German Denise Herrmann.
“Valentyna Semerenko wanted to rehabilitate for her performance in the mixed relay. The mountains are not a joke and, as I understand it, Valj lost consciousness or was close to it. As a result, the medical staff advised her to return to her homeland, which she will do”, said Vladimir Brinzak.
Valentyna Semerenko, 36, is an Olympic champion in the women’s relay in Sochi 2014. She is a world champion in the mass start of the championship in 2015 and has won seven gold medals at European championships in her career.
She is Olympic and World champion, multiple World championships medalist and one of the most successful Ukrainian winter athletes.
