The dream of sisters Elvira and Hanna Oeberg to win Olympic medals in one start in biathlon did not come true due to the poor shooting of the two Swedes in today’s 15 km individual race (women) at the Beijing Games.
Four years ago, Elvira Oeberg watched on TV the triumph of her older sister Hanna, who won gold for Sweden in the 15-kilometer distance in PyeongChang 2018. Today the two started together, but the 22-year-old debutant Elvira Oeberg was 13th out of 86, while the 26-year-old Hanna Oeberg finished three places behind her.
“It was fun to share this experience with my sister. I have already competed in the Olympics and won gold, but to be with her in an Olympics competition is fantastic”, said Hanna Oeberg.
Hanna Oeberg was moving well, but a miss in the last shot deprived her of a third Olympic medal after the 15km gold and silver in the PyeongChang 2018 Games relay.
“My shooting went relatively well, but this omission of the last shot from a straight position prevented me from reaching the top. But I will work on that in the future”, said Hanna Oeberg.
Debutant Elvira Oeberg was pleased with 13th place in the standings.
“Three misses in shooting are 85% success, which is not bad, but it’s not enough when the conditions are as good as they are today. Most of them shot very well in this race. I gave my best and I’m happy”, said Elvira Oeberg.
The sisters have a new opportunity to increase the family’s collection of medals in the 7.5km sprint on Friday.
