The leader in the world rankings in women’s ski jump Marita Kramer will miss the Beijing 2022 Olympics because of a positive test for coronavirus. The Dutch-born Austrian ski jumper was due to fly for Beijing last week but postponed the trip as she tested positive in the last race before the Games in Germany. Recent tests have shown that the 20-year-old ski jumper has not recovered from the disease and has to miss the Olympics.
“No words, no feelings, just emptiness. Is the world really so unfair? I’ve been preparing for this Olympics in recent years. I’ve put so much energy and effort into making my dream come true, and now that dream has evaporated in one day:”, wrote Marita Kramer in social networks.
Unlike many countries trying to live with COVID-19, China has declared zero tolerance for the virus and imposed draconian measures during the Winter Olympics.
All participants must present two negative tests upon arrival in China, after which they will be tested daily.
Marita Kramer was leading the ranking of the 2021–22 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup before the Olympics and won 6 out of 11 events.
