Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) received a wild card for an international tennis tournament in St Petersburg, Russia. This was announced by the tournament director Alexander Medvedev.
“We have several invitations and the fate of one wild card has already been decided. It was given to the winner of the tournament in 2018 Petra Kvitova, who is a brilliant tennis player. The Czech herself asked for the invitation and we are very pleased to give it to her”, said Alexander Medvedev
The tournament will be held from February 7 to 13, and since 2016 it is in the WTA 500 category.
Petra Kvitova is a Czech professional tennis player, known for her powerful left-handed groundstrokes and variety. She turned professional in 2006 and has won 28 career singles titles, two of which are Grand Slam titles, the Wimbledon Championships in 2011 and in 2014. She also won a bronze medal while representing the Czech Republic at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Her career-high ranking of world No. 2 was achieved on October 31, 2011.
At the recent Australian Open 2022, Petra Kvitova lost in the first round to Sorana Cîrstea.
