Caroline Dolehide (USA) saved four match points to advance to the final of the WTA 250 Guangzhou Open hard court tennis tournament in China. The qualifier dramatically defeated Lucia Bronzetti (Italy) by 2-1 (6:3, 3:6, 7:6) in two hours and 39 minutes.
The American tennis player trailed 3-6 in the tiebreak of the third set, but managed to make a comeback and qualify for her second final in WTA tournaments.
Before that, the Italian managed to catch up from a 2:5 deficit in the last part and even made a turnaround to 6:5, but lost her serve at the decisive moment.
In the title match on Sunday, Caroline Dolehide will face Olga Danilovic (Serbia). The Serbian qualified for the final after retiring of the top-seeded Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic), who suffered an injury in the third set of the match and ended her participation at 4:3 in favor of Olga Danilovic.
The Czech tenis player took the lead in the match after 6:4, but then the Serbian tennis player equalized after 6:4 in her favor.
Olga Danilovic has one WTA title in her career so far.
Caroline Dolehide and Olga Danilovic had head-to-head balance of 0-2. The Serbian tennis player won the two matches both had played with last one being at the US Open qualifications in 2021.
