Former world’s number one and four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka (Japan) withdrew from the WTA 250 Japan Open tournament due to injury. This happens a week before the start of the tournament in the Japanese capital.
She is a four-time Grand Slam champion between 2018 and 2021, and her performance in recent weeks has been encouraging. However, the 26-year-old Naomi Osaka was forced to withdraw from the Round of 16 match at the WTA 100 China Open in Beijing against American Coco Gauff due to back pain. At the time of the withdrawal, both players had won one set each.
“So I locked my back up during practice earlier and honestly wasn’t sure if I could even play but I just wanted to try. Unfortunately things just got progressively worse during the match”, wrote she on social media, explaining her injury
Naomi Osaka has climbed 15 places in the new WTA rankings released today to 58th.
The 26-year-old tennis player from Japan is entered into the WTA 500 Pan Pacific Open, which runs from October 21-27 in Tokyo.
