Katharina Liensberger brought Austria’s first slalom victory since 2014

Katharina Liensberger

The Austrian Katharina Liensberger has achieved her first win for the world cup of alpine skiing after winning slalom in Are (Sweden).

Katharina Liensberger triumphed with 1:47.93 minutes. She was second after the first run with 52.94 seconds but made a great second slalom for 54.99 seconds, which brought her success.

Thus, the 23-year-old Katharina Liensberger brought Austria’s first victory in a slalom of the World Cup since November 30, 2014, when Nicole Hosp triumphed in Aspen, Colorado.

“I felt like flying, it was a flight from top to bottom. I just gave it all. That’s really amazing. If there’s something you love and you put all your energy in it, you can really achieve it”, said Katharina Liensberger.

The second in the slalom in Are, Sweden, ended the four-time World Champion Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), who was the fastest in the first run of 52.75 seconds but failed to hold the leading position.

Third finished Wendy Holdener (Switzerland) at 1.65 seconds.

Discipline leader Petra Vlhova, who won Friday’s floodlit slalom on the same course, finished only in eighth following a big mistake in the Slovakian’s opening run. So Petra Vlhova stayed at the top of the top crystal globe with 1352 points, 96 points in front of Lara Gut-Behrami (Switzerland), who did not participate in the slalom today. The third is Michelle Gisin (Switzerland) with 1020 points.
