Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) will miss the WTA 1000 China Open tennis tournament in Beijing due to back injury.
“For fans who have been following the China Open and Rybakina’s dynamics recently, we regret to inform you that due to a back injury, our last year’s semi-finalist Elena Rybakina will not have the opportunity to meet with you. We sincerely wish Elena Rybakina to return to the court as soon as possible and meet Chinese fans again as soon as possible”, says the statement of the WTA 1000 China Open organizers.
Elena Rybakina has not played competitive tennis since the US Open at the beginning of August as she withdrew from the season-ending Grand Slam ahead of her second-round match simply stating: “Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from my match today due to my injuries”.
Withdrawal of Elena Rybakina will cost her 390 points from the WTA ranking after last year she reached the semi-finals. This means that it is absolutely possible for the Wimbledon 2022 champion to be out of the Top 5 after the end of the tournament. Currently, Elena Rybakina is 473 points ahead of Jasmine Paolini (Italy) and 888 ahead of Cori Coco Gauff (USA).
