Audrey Werro broke the Swiss women’s 800m national record at the Bellinzona athletics tournament yesterday. The 20-year-old athlete, who has two Under-20 European titles, won the race in 1:57.76 min. Thus she bettered the previous Swiss record of 1:57.95 min by Selina Rutz-Buchel from 2015. Second in the 800m in Bellinzona was American track and field athlete Addison Wiley with 1:59.23 min, and third was European medalist Renelle Lamote (France) with 2:00.09 min.
The Top 5 at the event were completed by Gabriela Gajanova (Slovakia) and Valentina Rosamilia (Switzerland), who finished in 2:01.05 min and 2::01.13 min, respectively.
Audrey Werro is a Swiss track and field athlete. She won the silver medal in the 800m at the 2022 World Under-20 Championships and gold medals at the 2021 European U20 Championships as well as the 2023 European U20 Championships. She won four Swiss titles and holds national records at the U18 and U20 levels.
Meanwhile, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (Puerto Rico) set a new meeting record in 100m hurdles event, finishing in 12.52 sec. It was the Puerto Rican’s fourth consecutive win after the Olympics, adding to her victories in Grand Prix Lombardia and two Diamond League meets. Grace Stark (USD) finished second in 12.54 sec and the bronze went to Ditaji Kambundji (Switzerland), who finished in 12.82 sec. Polish athletics talent Pia Skrzyszowska remain fourth in 12.94 sec.
